What are hair transplants?
Hair transplants involve surgical procedures that move healthy scalp skin and its hair follicles from areas where it grows thick and continuous to bald areas. The remaining hair in the healthy area covers any scars that might remain.
Old methods of hair transplant involved the transfer of relatively large areas of scalp tissue. The problems with this are that the scarring of the tissue where it is taken from is greater and that it is far more difficult for the surgeon to achieve a natural look with large pieces of skin tissue.
These days surgeons concentrate on smaller pieces of tissue and they even break these up into smaller units of up to 50 hair follicles. It is then far easier to achieve a natural look because with the smaller units the surgeon can follow the natural direction and angle patterns of the hair.
Hair transplants are a permanent solution to the balding problem. they do not fall out or slip like other hair replacement systems. Coverage of bald areas can be achieved quite quickly using transplant techniques.
What are the problems with transplants?
Hair transplants are surgical procedures and as a result carry the same consequences and danger as other surgery. There is obviously pain involved but modern anesthetics and pain killers control these problems well.
Transplants are also considered to be relatively expensive and in the short term this is true. However, in the long term the costs of medicinal treatments and other hair replacement systems can overtake that of the transplant cost. You have to remember that this is a permanent solution.
people who are totally bald or nearing that are not suitable candidates as there has to be somewhere to take the healthy hair follicles from. Scalp skin with healthy hair can't be taken from other people. It has to be your own tissue.
