What are Hair Replacement Systems?
Hair replacement systems refer to all the different ways that patches of missing hair on the scalp can be replaced. This includes replacement with hair from other parts of the body, otherwise known as hair transplants and the use of hair from other sources formatted to be stuck to the scalp. In the past hair stuck to the scalp has been referred to as wigs, toupees and hair pieces. These days techniques are bit more sophisticated and are therefore referred to as hair replacement systems.
Hair transplants
Sections of scalp with thick hair growth are surgically removed and then grafted back onto the scalp where the hair has ceased to grow. Another from of this is where the scalp skin is stretched forward over to the region where the hair no longer grows.
Wigs Toupees and Hair pieces
These are made from either human hair or artificial fibres. Wigs and Toupees are an old fashioned design made to cover the whole of the scalp, Hair pieces are made to just cover the areas where the hair is missing. The main problems with these are that they:
- Have to be stuck to the scalp
- Can be knocked out of place or off the scalp
- Can be uncomfortable and hot to wear
- Have an embarassment factor if noticed by others
- May look unreal or un natural
- May not fit in with any existing hair
Modern hair replacement systems have tried to make improvements on this situation by making them look more natural. The materials used as the base to attach the hairs have been made lighter and less obvious when the scalp is examined in more detail.
Why Choose this kind of Hair Replacement System?
When the amount of hair loss is large and other treatments either don't work or have ceased to have the desired effect then a hair replacement system is the next choice. A modern hair replacement system is hand designed, made and fitted to make sure that it fits in with your look and does not look un natural. Even under close examination the scalp will look natural underneath. They are made of lighter materials which means that they are more comfortable to wear. Improvements in adhesives means that they are far less likely to move or come off the scalp
Hair extensions
Hair extensions are where additional hair is weaved into your existing hair. This can be made to be very natural looking. A lot of African women wear hair extensions on a regualr basis. They are used by Afro Pop stars who want to have long straight hair rather than the natural very curly afro style. These always look very convincing. Hair extensions usually last about 6 weeks although they can be made to do up to 3 months depending on your rate of natural hair growth. You need to find somebody skilled in hair weaving for it to be a success.
