Hair Implant

What are hair implants?

This is really an example of hair transplant surgery. It is the technique used that puts this particular procedure on the map. It is designed to reduce the amount of scarring and improve the look of the final outcome. As with all surgery there are risks and there will still be some scarring.

How are hair implants done?

Basically a strip of skin tissue with hair is removed from the back of the head. This area is chosen because the hair in this area always continues to grow. The cut where the strip was taken is carefully stitched up. after this heals any scarring is covered by the surrounding hair. The surgeon then divides up the strip of tissue into areas with small groups of hair follicles. These are then inserted into the scalp where new hair is needed. The groups of hair follicles are laid in a similar pattern to normal hair and in the same direction. The aim is to make the the transplanted hair indistinguishable from natural hair. This is not major surgery and and only light sedation is used. This means that patients can go home after the surgery is completed.
